Train smarter, anywhere: inside the Axon Training Pod

In today’s rapidly evolving public safety landscape, consistent training isn’t just important—it’s essential. But many agencies face a persistent obstacle: a lack of dedicated, accessible space to conduct it.

That’s where the Axon Training Pod (ATP) steps in. This mobile, self-contained unit gives agencies a fast, scalable way to deploy Axon VR immersive training—removing the need for costly, time-consuming construction projects.

“The ATP is a plug-and-play solution that removes setup and space barriers, making it easier for agencies to quickly conduct Axon VR training,” said Scott Rottman, Axon’s Director of Policy & Training Strategy. “It maximizes time efficiency, headset time, and officer flexibility. This can be done in micro-learning sessions five or ten minutes before or after roll call. That’s a game changer.”

Built for real-world constraints

Inside its fully insulated, climate-controlled environment, the ATP houses five individual training bays—each equipped for Axon VR simulation. A central control room allows training supervisors to monitor and interact with each session in real time.

“Instead of spending millions to build or expand a training facility—often over years—agencies can have an ATP delivered and operational within weeks,” said John Brueck, Sr. Accreditation Program Manager at Axon. “We train them on-site, and they’re up and running.”

The ATP was born from real conversations with public safety leaders. The need was clear: while Axon VR enables valuable, flexible training in small spaces, many agencies lack the dedicated environments needed to deliver it consistently and at scale.

Real-time impact in the field

For many agencies, the ATP is more than just infrastructure—it’s a mission-critical lifeline that keeps critical training accessible and operational. When the Pasadena Police Department's training facility and TASER 10 inventory were destroyed in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, Axon promptly deployed an ATP to restore their ability to conduct Axon VR training on-site. Similarly, on the island of Kauai, where training space is scarce, the ATP enabled the Kauai Police Department to simultaneously introduce Axon VR and transition to TASER 10, enhancing their training efficiency.

“For Kauai, it was the perfect storm in a good way,” Brueck recalled. “They could upskill with VR, transition to TASER 10, and do it all affordably and locally. Their core mission was simple: get our officers home safe. The ATP gave them a dedicated space to train consistently and build critical skills—all essential to realizing their goal.”

Scalable, supported, and ready to deploy

The ATP isn’t just a quick solution—it’s a long-term investment in operational readiness. Designed to evolve alongside your agency’s needs, the ATP comes with a full support commitment, ensuring that your training infrastructure stays mission-ready for the long haul.

From urban departments with expanding teams to rural agencies, the ATP offers the flexibility to train where it matters most. All an agency needs is level ground and access to power, and the team can be up and training. Whether at headquarters or in a rural field office, the ATP is ready to go where your officers are—making it deployable just about anywhere.

“We can conduct VR training virtually anywhere, thanks to Axon's portable VR platform and infrastructure solutions like the ATP. These systems are designed for flexible deployment, enabling immersive, high-quality training in diverse environments without the need for dedicated facilities.” said Rottman.

It's not just about the ATP unit itself— agencies benefit from continuous updates to the Axon VR training platform. The scenarios and capabilities inside the ATP evolve over time, ensuring agencies always have access to the most up-to-date, effective training tools.

As public safety continues to change, Axon is committed to meeting agencies where they are—supporting scalable growth and delivering high-impact training that moves at the speed of real life.

A platform, not just a pod

The ATP isn’t just a standalone innovation—it reflects a broader vision toward modular, mission-driven technology in public safety. Moreover, the ATP proves high-quality, high-frequency training doesn’t need a permanent footprint. And its success is already inspiring what’s next.

“Based on the overwhelming positive feedback we’ve received, we’re already exploring next phases,” said Rottman. “That includes concepts like a mobile or forward-deployable Real-Time Pod (RTP), or a Real-Time Crime Center, which would give agencies immediate access to live intelligence and incident response tools—anywhere. We’re also hearing interest around mobile detention and mobile interview environments.”

The vision is bold: customizable, rapidly deployable infrastructure solutions that bring intelligence, training, and readiness to the frontlines—without delay and without having to sacrifice operational flow. Just as the ATP infrastructure helps address space challenges by bringing Axon VR training to parking lots, police academies, and remote towns, the next wave of Axon solutions will continue to shrink the gap between need and capability.

“We’re in the voice-of-customer phase for what comes next,” Brueck added. “But what’s clear is this—agencies are ready for infrastructure that moves with them. Axon is proud to continue to adapt to customer needs and create solutions.”

From big cities to small towns, from training academies to rural patrol posts, the ATP has shown that reimagining space and scalability can redefine what’s possible in public safety. And this is just the start.
